PCC's Cecilia Bitz interviewed in KPLU segment on melting Arctic sea ice

PCC Faculty Member Cecilia Bitz was interviewed for this short radio segment on the rate and potential impacts of Arctic sea ice retreat, outlined in a paper published this week in the journal Science. In the segment, Prof. Bitz not only outlines that Arctic Sea Ice is melting very quickly relative to the global mean, but that it also is a positive feedback, as sea ice is much more reflective than sea water. Melting Arctic sea ice also impacts marine predators at all levels of the food chain, as unique fatty ice-bound algae are lost. The segment can be found below:
